    Job description

    GIZ International Services is shortlisted for the European Union tender program "Technical assistance for institutional strengthening of national entities for environmental and forest governance in Paraguay". The project's overall goal is to contribute to building a green and resilient economy in Paraguay, focusing on reducing the incidence and extent of extreme forest fires.

    It is expected to increase awareness, skills, technical capacities, and technology of national and local authorities to prevent and manage forest fires.

    Your tasks

    The specialist will be responsible for tasks related to forest and/or territorial governance, as well as comprehensive fire management and related activities. They will be based at the National Forest Institute (INFONA).

    Your profile

    Qualifications and competencies

    • A university degree in forestry engineering, environmental sciences, agricultural sciences, ecology, conservation and restoration of ecosystems, or directly related disciplines.
    • A master's degree or postgraduate qualification in topics related to comprehensive fire management or forest fires, fire monitoring and extinguishing services, or equivalent demonstrable professional experience of at least 3 years in areas related to the objectives and tasks of this technical assistance.
    • Additional training (master's degree, postgraduate or others) in the aforementioned areas will be positively valued.

    General professional experience:

    • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in forest and/or territorial governance activities, comprehensive fire management, and related fields.
    • Professional experience in Latin America in the areas covered by the contract will be positively valued.

    Specific Professional Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in geographic information systems focused on fire monitoring, risk management and fire impacts, early warning systems, in public or private entities, preferably with an international focus.
    • Oral and written fluency in Spanish (native or C2).
    • Knowledge of English will be positively valued.

    Location information


    The location of activities and service provision is Paraguay, Greater Asunción.

    Start date and implementation period

    The planned start date is March 1, 2024.

    The initial contract execution period will be 48 months from this date.
